Gun violence is a leading cause of death in the United States. Annually, about 30,000 people die from firearms, the majority of these suicides. In 2000, firearm deaths were 16,586 suicide, 10,801 Homicide, and 1,276 unintentional shootings. Roughly, there are 200,000,000 firearms in America, more then one gun for each adult. Most Americas support gun control, but strongly support specific proposals toward licensing and registration. This is a very controversial issue.
In my opinion, I think that there should be more restrictions on gun laws. One possible solution to decrease gun violence is to make gun laws national laws and not state laws. This is so that people cannot simply go to a different state with fewer restrictions then theirs to purchase a gun. Making it mandatory to keep your gun locked up very securely, so that it cannot get stolen, should also be another law and is another possible solution. A third solution would be to put high consequences such as fines and jail time for anybody who purchases a gun for a minor or somebody who cannot legally purchase their own gun. Although there isn’t very much we can do to completely stop gun violence, I feel that increasing the punishment of crimes involving guns will somewhat decrease the amount of gun violence in the United States.

Gun violence kills about 30,000 people every year. The death rate caused by guns in the US is 12 times higher than in 25 other countries. Between 36% and 50% of eleventh grade males think they could get a gun if they wanted one. More than 50% of suicides were gun deaths in 1998. Firearms present in a household increase the risk of suicide and the risk of homicide triples. Guns are the leading cause of death for African Americans who are between 15-34 years old.

Every day in the United States, 32 people are died from gun homicides, and 49 are killed from other types of gun violence like suicides or unintentional shootings. About 40% of gun sales need no information on the buyer. Unlocked guns are one reason for increase of deaths from guns. Another reason is the easy accessibility of guns. Organizations are trying to find ways to prevent gun violence.
